World Book Day is celebrated on April 23rd in Spain, and particularly in Catalonia, due to its association with Sant Jordi (Saint George's Day) and the tradition of exchanging books and roses. UNESCO also declared April 23rd as World Book and Copyright Day in 1995, partly because it coincides with the death dates of renowned authors like Miguel de Cervantes and William Shakespeare.
